Big House Anno 1826

When I acquired a collection of ten antique samplers all at once, this one immediately stood out: an impressive piece with a large house and a striking blue roof. It reminded me straight away of “GH 1857”, a sampler I reproduced earlier, which also features a prominent house at its center.
When I removed the sampler from its frame, I was surprised to find that the colours on the back were still remarkably vivid. This stitcher clearly loved colour! And then comes the classic reproduction dilemma: do you base your chart on the bright original colours from the back, or on the soft, faded tones of the front? I personally tend to prefer the muted, timeworn shades.
So, I decided… to do both.
